What we use
Every Dragon Bar is made with love, organic fruit powder, organic fruit flakes, organic fruit juice concentrate, organic oats, organic fair-trade coconut oil, and edible paper to make the perfect snack that kids want to eat and parents want to feed them. We will never use GMOs, added sugar, nuts, palm oil, lecithin, or artificial flavors.
Why do we use organic ingredients?
When it comes to our children nothing less than the best is acceptable. That is why we at Dragon Bars use only the highest quality organic ingredients. Did you know that organic means no GMOs, no synthetic pesticides, no petroleum-based fertilizers, and no sewage sludge-based fertilizers. Organic food is also better for the environment by reducing pollution, soil erosion, and conserving water.
What is fruit powder and why do we use it?
Fruit powder comes in various forms. We only use organic freeze-dried fruit powders, which are made with the whole fruit and nothing but the fruit. Whole pieces of pure fruit are frozen in a vacuum chamber, a process that removes water content while retaining a significant portion of the vitamins and nutrients. We don’t add any binders, preservatives, artificial flavors, or anything else, leaving an end-product that is pure fruit.
Read on to discover which ingredients we use (and which ingredients we’ll never use), and why!
Edible paper serves a practical purpose in the making of Dragon Bars, we use it as a layer on the top and bottom of every Dragon Bar to ensure your little ones don’t get sticky fingers. Our edible paper is made with three ingredients; potato starch, water, and olive oil.

What we DON'T use
There are several ingredients that many other food manufacturers use in their products, which range from bad to outright disgusting. Read on to learn which ingredients we don’t use and why!
Let’s face it, nuts are great. However, approximately 1.9% of the American population, or a little over 6 million Americans, suffer from a peanut or tree nut allergy. Because of this, more schools and other public places where children gather are becoming nut-free zones. We want your children to be able to enjoy a Dragon Bar where ever they are, that’s why we don’t use any nuts in the making of Dragon Bars.
Approximately 3 million people in the United States have celiac disease, an auto-immune response to consuming gluten that, among other things, causes inflammation in the small intestine’s lining. While gluten is harmless for the vast majority of the population, we understand that many people choose to reduce or eliminate their gluten intake for other reasons.
According to BBC, the production of palm oil is responsible for about 8% of the world’s deforestation between 1990 and 2008. We at Dragon Bar want to protect species like orangutans, elephants and tigers so that is why we decided to not use palm oil as an ingredient.
According to the CDC approximately 90% of children eat too much sodium daily, and 1 in 6 children have raised blood pressure, which can be lowered in part by reducing sodium intake. These are terrifying statistics and can be largely attributed to food manufacturers added grotesque amounts of salt to processed foods. Don’t understand us wrong, we love salt as much as the next guy or gal, but children in America are simply consuming too much of it.
Do yourself, and your kids, a favor. Next time you reach for a kid’s snack, take good hard look at the ingredients and nutritional information. Food manufacturers often use many different words to mask added sugar in the ingredients, including molasses, brown sugar, cane juice, cane sugar, cane sugar extract, raw sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, and many more. Dragon Bars do contain naturally occurring fructose, which is part of the fruit powders and juice concentrate that we use, and has a lower glycemic index than other sugars.
Lecithin is commonly used as an emulsifier to stabilize ingredients in foods. While it comes from a natural source (soy), the extraction process includes using an industrial solvent by the name of Hexane. Hexane is also used in paints and glues. Since hexane is not regulated by the FDA, consumers have no idea how much hexane is residually left on the soy lecithin after extraction. We’re not cool with that, and don’t want our kids or your kids consuming harmful chemicals, even in tiny doses.
Artificial flavors (and natural flavors)
Thankfully, many food manufacturers are phasing out the use of artificial flavors, which bring a plethora of health risks with them, including dizziness, nausea, mental confusion, seizures, depression, cancer, and many others. Needless to say, artificial flavors really shouldn’t be consumed by humans and definitely not by kids. We’ve noticed, however, a new and frankly alarming trend. Many food manufacturers, including those who manufacture kid’s snacks, list “natural flavors” in their ingredients section. “Natural flavors” are commonly refined using harsh chemicals and reconstructing sometimes up to 200 chemical compounds to create a certain flavor. That may be natural according to the law, but to us, there’s nothing natural about that process.
